Question/Problem Description
When connecting to SQL Server using NTLM or Windows Authentication from Unix, and using a username of the format <DOMAIN>\<USER>, the error below is returned.

Clarifying Information
Domain connection option is specified in the ODBC data source (DSN) as Domain=<DOMAIN>

Cause
The Windows domain is specified in the ODBC data source Domain connection option as well as being passed with the username.
Resolution
To resolve the issue, do one of the below
  • Use the user name as <USER> along with connection option Domain=<DOMAIN> in the ODBC DSNĀ 
  • Remove the Domain connection option from the ODBC DSN and connect with Username of the format <DOMAIN>\<USER>
