When selecting a large XML value from an Oracle 12c xmltype column, and error occurs.

The same query works against Oracle version 11g

Workaround
The following query would fail:

select A.col1 from xmltest A   

NOTE:  A.col1 is of type xmltype.

Adding the GETCLOBVAL() function to the xmltype column resolves this behavior

Here is an example query:

select A.col1.GETCLOBVAL() from xmltest A

GETCLOBVAL() allows the data to be retrieved as LOB data.
