Resolution
Oracle Advanced Security is not required to use SSL.

Once the database has been configured for SSL, basic SSL encrypted communication can be setup as simple as setting the connection parameters "Encryption Method" = 1 which turns on SSL and NOT selecting “Validate Server Certificate”. This allows encrypted communication without verifying the identity of the server.

- Connection parameters related to SSL include Encryption Method, Trust Store, Key Store, Host Name In Certificate. On a Windows data source, the options under the "Security" tab are used for SSL.
- Connection parameters related to Oracle Advanced Security include Encryption Level and Data Integrity Level. On a Windows data source, the options under the "Advanced Security" are used for Oracle Advanced Security.

For additional information on configuring SSL, Oracle Wallet SSL Authentication, using Oracle Wallet as a Keystore and options related to Oracle Advanced Security refer to the Progress DataDirect Oracle Wire Protocol driver documentation.
