Question/Problem Description
"General Error" occurs connecting to Cassandra(DataStax) with the Progress DataDirect for JDBC Cassandra driver.

Cause
The issue was caused by flaw in the code where the driver logic to do discovery of the tables/columns on the server. Part of this discovery process includes querying the user-defined data types (UDTs) on the server and using their definitions to "expand" the types of the columns which refer to those UDTs. The flaw occurred when the very first row in the returned result set contained a reference to a UDT which was returned later in the result set. 
Resolution
Fixed in hot fix 6.0.0.0263.
