URL NameIncorrect-description-of-the-value-1-of-the-AuthenticationMethod-connection-option-in-the-Sybase-ODBC-driver-documentation
Article Number000182181
EnvironmentProduct: DataDirect Connect for ODBC Sybase driver
Version: 7.1
OS: all supported platforms
Database: Sybase
Application: all supported applications
Question/Problem Description
The Sybase ODBC driver does not support Extended Password Encryption Protocol and only uses Sybase proprietary encryption for password encryption. Therefore, the description of the value 1 of the AuthenticationMethod connection option in the User Guide is incorrect:

"If set to 1 (Encrypt Password), the driver sends the user ID in clear text and an encrypted password to the server for authentication. If the RSA encryption fails or is not supported against the server, the password will be encrypted using Sybase encryption."

Cause
Resolution
As long as the documentation has not been updated, the description of the value 1 of the AuthenticationMethod needs to be read as:

"If set to 1 (Encrypt Password), the driver sends the user ID in clear text and an encrypted password to the server for authentication. The password will be encrypted using Sybase proprietary encryption."
