Question/Problem Description
The Connect for JDBC MySQL driver returns socket closed message when an incorrect certificate is provided for an SSL connection.
Steps to Reproduce

The Connect for JDBC MySQL driver should return a more useful error message related to a failed SSL handshake exception. The MySQL driver version 4.2 returns the error message "DataDirectMySQL JDBC DriverSSL handshake failed: Received fatal alert: handshake_failure  ".
Error MessageError establishing socket to host and port: MyHost:1234. Reason: Socket is closed․

Cause
When a socket closed condition occurs the driver was not checking to see if a SSL handshake was failing at the time of the error.
Resolution
Fixed in hot fix 5.1.4.000158  After installing this patch the same error condition will now return the message "DataDirectMySQL JDBC DriverSSL handshake failed: Received fatal alert: handshake_failure  "
