Question/Problem Description
ORA-01882 error when trying to connect to Oracle 11GR1 with the Connect for JDBC Oracle driver
Error occurs when the driver is executing ALTER SESSION SET TIME_ZONE
Problem does not occur with old driver version 5.1.3.000197

Error MessageMessage: [DataDirect][Oracle JDBC Driver][Oracle]ORA-01882: timezone region not found
Defect NumberDefect 37398
Enhancement Number
Cause
The older Oracle server did not recognize the timezone used by the application, in this case AMERICAS/Toronto. The driver was modified for instances like this to use a numeric offset if the server returns a 1882 error.
Resolution
Fixed in hot fix 5.1.4.000317
