Question/Problem Description
Is it possible to improve the data transfer speed between OpenAccess Client and OpenAccess Server ?

Cause
OpenAccess client server protocol works as below for complete execution of the query and fetch the results.
1. Client sends request packet for query execution
2. Server initiates the query execution and replies with a response packet with the result description (result column information)
3. Client sends request packet to fetch the results
4. Server will send response packet with results that can be accommodated in ~32K network buffer and indicates if more results are available
5. Client repeats request packet to fetch remaining results
6. Server will send response packet with results that can be accommodated in ~32K network buffer and indicates if more results are available
Steps 5 & 6 will repeat until all results are returned

So performance of query needs to take into consideration the overhead of multiple packet exchanges between client and server.

Currently OA does not expose an option for tuning the network buffer size and does not use compression on the network buffers.

Resolution
It was determined that the Progress Product is functioning as designed.

An enhancement to the product can be requested through the Progress Community via an Ideas submission. Customer feedback is valuable and Idea submissions are monitored by our Product Management team. Enhancement requests are reviewed during the planning phase of each new product release and a list of the enhancements chosen for implementation can be found in the Release Notes documents that accompany each release. Once an Idea is submitted the Progress Software Community will have the opportunity to comment on and vote for the Idea.

For detailed information on how to submit an Idea, please refer to Knowledge Base article How to submit an idea for a Progress product enhancement.
