Question/Problem Description
Unable to declare local variable for use in the query with Connect for ADO.Net Oracle provider.
This works when used in a stored procedure but it does not in query designer
Steps to ReproduceDECLARE
l_message
VARCHAR2 (20) := 'Hello';
BEGIN
select l_message from dual
end;
Clarifying Information
Error MessageAn error occurred while executing the query. There is no host variable corresponding to the one specified by the PARAM datastream.

Resolution
Change the syntax of the query as shown below;

1. Add a semicolon to the end of select statement.
2. In PLSQL block, columns in select statements must be assigned to variables. 
3. Use SELECT INTO instead of just select .

For Example:
DECLARE l_message 
VARCHAR2 (20) := 'Hello'; 
l_message2 VARCHAR2 (20); 
BEGIN 
select l_message into l_message2 from dual;
end;
