Question/Problem Description
SQLNumResultCols returns the below error when it is called on a table that does not exist. The error is expected because the table does not exist. However, is it possible to get the error when the query is executed instead of already on the SQLNumResultCols call?

Resolution
According to the ODBC specification, SQLNumResultCols can return any SQLSTATE that can be returned by SQLPrepare or SQLExecute when called after SQLPrepare and before SQLExecute, depending on when the data source evaluates the SQL statement associated with the statement. The driver evaluates the query already on SQLNumResultCols

An enhancement to the product (to have the possibilty that the evaluation happens only on the SQLExecute) can be requested through the Progress Community via an Ideas submission. Customer feedback is valuable and Idea submissions are monitored by our Product Management team. Enhancement requests are reviewed during the planning phase of each new product release and a list of the enhancements chosen for implementation can be found in the Release Notes documents that accompany each release. Once an Idea is submitted the Progress Software Community will have the opportunity to comment on and vote for the Idea.

For detailed information on how to submit an Idea, please refer to Knowledge Base article "How to submit an idea for a Progress product enhancement".
