Question/Problem Description
Does the Oracle Wire Protocol driver support Oracle 12c setting MAX_STRING_SIZE=EXTENDED? 
Steps to ReproduceCreate a table with a single VARCHAR2 column of size >4000 in Oracle 12c database which is configured with MAX_STRING_SIZE=EXTENDED .
Insert any character string of length > 4000 into the table.
Clarifying Information
With Oracle 12c the max sizes for column types VARCHAR2, NVARCHAR2 and RAW have been increased from 4000 to 32767. Alter the Oracle system to set MAX_STRING_SIZE=EXTENDED to enable this.

This functionality is not supported in v7.1. The functionality is only implemented in v8.0 driver
Resolution
Upgrade to 8.0 or later.
