Question/Problem Description
User can do a test connection using a datasource  from the ODBC Data Source Administrator to the MongoDB database successfully. But when running the client application, which connects to MongoDB and executes query,  the connection to MongoDB fails with the following error.

Cause
It was client application code issue. Application was converting the user id to upper case if the user id is not provided with double quotes and then trying to connect.
Resolution
Either provide the user id in double quotes or create the user id in upper case.
